RECAP: FIORENTINA 0 - 1 AS ROMA
Michael Bradley put in 120 minutes of work for AS Roma versus Fiorentina in midweek Coppa Italia action, as Roma progressed thanks to a Mattia Destro strike.
Bradley got the start in midfield for a Roma team hampered by injuries in attack with both Francesco Totti and Erik Lamela out of the lineup.
Fiorentina nearly opened the scoring in the 17th minutes through Luca Toni, but the burly Italian striker saw his headed effort denied by the post.
The home team hit the woodwork for a second time in the 40th minute, this time it was Alberto Aquilani hammering a freekick from the edge of the box of the crossbar.
Not to be outdone, Roma had chances of their own. Destro forced keeper Neto into a miraculous save in the 50th minute, while Danielle De Rossi had his goal called back due to offsides in the 78th minute.
The deadlock was finally broken in the seventh minute of extra time.
Bradley played Miralem Pjanic in behind defense on the right wing, and the striker sent in a hard, low cross to the six yards box onto the boot off an onrushing Destro, who buried it from the closest of ranges.
Things then got ugly with Rodrigo Taddei sent off for two cautions in the 117th minute, and both Fiorentina's Cuadrado and Roma's Dodó were sent to the showers two minutes later after getting into a scuffle.
It's now on to the semifinals for Bradley and the Giallorossi, where they will take on Inter in a home and away series starting next week.
