MICHAEL ADUBATO - Saturday, August 6, 2011
Anderlecht picked up their first points of the season last night by defeating visiting Mechelen in Jupiler Pro League action. American Sacha Kljestan lit up the scoreboard in the first half before Matias Suarez and Romelu Lukaku both struck after the intermission to assure the victory.

The first goal on the night came half way through the first half when Suarez' shot was saved by Renard in the Mechelen goal, only to see Fernando Canesin Matos knocked over in the box. Kljestan confidently placed the ball on the spot and blasted it past the keeper. The American, as well as Lukaku, had chances to double the scoreminutes later but Renard made two fine saves.

It only took the Yellow Reds six minutes to get back into it after the intermission thanks to David Destorme's shot that managed to beat Silvio Proto between the Anderlecht posts. The celebrations were short-lived because in the 58th minute Les Mauves were back on top again. Suarez shot from long range and gave Renard no chance of making a save with his superbly struck ball.

Anderlecht peppered the Mechelen goal for the remainder of the game until finally a Suarez pass found Lukaku who powered his shot into the back of the net in the 78th minute to secure the points.

Kljestan & Co. hit the road next weekend when they head to Lokeren on Sunday evening to take on Sporting in East Flanders.
