DAVIES TO SPEND 2011 WITH DC UNITED
Charlie Davies will officially be spending his 2011 playing in MLS with DC United after the team completed a deal to acquire the American striker on-loan from French club Sochaux.
Davies had spent the previous week on trial at DC United's preseason training camp in Florida where he impressed team officials by scoring in two scrimmages.
The agreement with United is a major step forward in Davies' remarkable comeback from a horrific car accident in October 2009 that nearly took the life of the New Hampshire native.
Injuries sustained in that accident had precluded Davies from playing the rest of the 2009-2010 season with Sochaux plus the World Cup in South Africa.
The former Hammarby man had hoped to see game action this past fall with the Ligue 1 team but only managed to make the gameday roster for a single December match where he did not feature.
Now in a new year in his home country, Davies will attempt to regain his status as one of the top US strikers by taking on MLS competition.
"Charlie Davies will be spending the 2011 season with DC United," confirmed DC United Director of Marketing Communications Kyle Sheldon to YA.
The move will keep Davies in MLS through the fall with the expectation that he will rejoin Sochaux during the next winter break.
Davies and DC United begin their season on March 19th versus the Columbus Crew.
