ARIS ON VERGE OF DROPPING ADU
Freddy Adu's nomadic path through Europe has apparently hit another dead end as Greek club Aris FC are planning to return Adu to his parent club of Benfica.
Adu spent last fall on loan at Portuguese club Belenenses which saw the Maryland native receive very little playing time.
During the winter transfer window, Aris struck a deal with Benfica to acquire Adu on loan for the remaining 18 months of his contract.
While Adu had some success with the Super League squad, head coach Hector Cuper has apparently elected to not include the former United States Under-20 player in his plans for the 2010-2011 season.
"Adu is still officially a player of Aris, but was not selected by Cuper to be with the team in their preseason training in Austria," confirmed Aris press officer Chrisanthos Tsaltidis to YA.
The former DC United man's stint with the Greek club was his fourth team in less than two years and with his time in Saloniki presumably now done, it could mark an end to Adu's immediate future in Europe.
In the meantime, Aris states that they will be looking to reach an agreement with Benfica to return Adu to his parent club since the attacker is still under contract for another year.
"The administrator will be talking with them this week about options for Adu," concluded Tsaltidis.
Adu appeared in nine Super League matches with Aris where he scored one goal.
