DEMERIT, SIMEK TO GET USMNT CALL
Wednesday, March 14, 2007
Jay DeMerit and Frankie Simek are to finally receive their first senior team invitations, Yanks Abroad has learned.

According to multiple sources, the duo are among 13 foreign-based players to be called up by interim USMNT boss Bob Bradley for matches against Ecuador in Tampa on March 25th and Guatemala in Frisco, Texas three days later.

This will be Bradley's first chance to call in a number of non-domestic players, with the matches scheduled for FIFA international dates and European leagues taking the time off for international play.

Young midfield pair Benny Feilhaber and Michael Bradley will also make the cross-Atlantic trip, their first appearances in a US camp since the elder Bradley was named overseer.

Fulham teammates Carlos Bocanegra and Clint Dempsey, DaMarcus Beasley, Tim Howard, Oguchi Onyewu and West Ham defender Jonathan Spector should be among players returning from England.

Borussia Mönchengladbach captain Kasey Keller makes a surprise return, and Steve Cherundolo and Heath Pearce are expected to round out the non-MLS portion of the roster.

The full announcement with MLS players filling out the remainder of the invitees should be made on Thursday.
