KENYA BROWN - Tuesday, February 27, 2018
William Yarbrough, Landon Donovan, and Club Leon allowed two second-half goals as they fell to Pachuca in the Liga MX action over the weekend.

Pachuca 2-1 Leon

Goals from Sebastian Palacios and Keisuke Honda canceled out an earlier stike from Mauro Boselli as Pachuca earned a narrow win over Leon at Estadio Hidalgo.

Yarbrough was between the sticks while Donovan made another appearance of the bench for Los Esmeraldas.

The host started out the gate early as the put pressure on Lean. This brought Yarbrough in action quickly as he was forced to make a save on a shot from outside the area. He make another big save later in the first half when Honda fired a powerful shot from the right that the goalkeeper parried away.

Leon withstood the pressure and went on the attack themselves, which led to them breaking the scoreless deadlock in the 43rd minute. Boselli would get his foot onto a deflected pass and and squeeze the ball past Pachuca goalkeeper Alfonso Blanco.

The early lead boosted the visitor's confidence and they entered the second half looking for more. Elias Hernandez set up a very good opportunity for them to add a second goal in the 49th minute when he made a run with ball from midfield before passing it on to Fernando Navarro. However, his shot was well saved by Blanco.

Pachuca would then find the equalizer in the 65th minute when Palacios took a pass from teammate Jorge Hernandez and unleashed a shot from outside the area that a diving Yarbrough could not reach.

The host put on more pressure and nearly scored a second immediately after the restart when Honda's shot beat Yarbrough, but came crashing off the post.

Leon also had their chances to retake the lead - Boselli saw his shot in the 83rd minute trickle wide of the goal while Luis Montes' effort went wide in the 87th minute.

Just when the game appeared to be heading towards a tie, a penalty was called in stoppage time, allowing Honda to grab the goal he had been looking for as he sent Yarbrough the wrong way to coolly convert from the spot.

Leon sits in 12th place in the standings, three points outside of the playoff spots.
