A good performance in the preseason has guaranteed US forward Julian Green a spot in Bayern Munich's first team for the upcoming Bundesliga season, the team announced on Tuesday.

The past couple of years have not been good for the German-American as a failed loan at Hamburg and a return to Bayern's reserve team led many to question whether he should find new pastures away from the reigning Bundesliga champions.

However, after an impressive preseason, in which the 21-year-old bagged a hat trick against Inter Milan and another goal against SV Lippstadt earlier, it looks like he has done enough to earn his way onto the talent-laden team.

One of the moves made to Green's benefit by new Bayern head coach Carlo Ancelotti has been to shift him from a winger to center forward. And the move has paid off so far as Green would be competing for playing time on the wings with the likes of Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and a host of others. By moving to the center forward position he has a strong chance of seeing more time as Robert Lewandowski will be the only player ahead of him in the pecking order.

And with Bayern having a loaded schedule this season with league, cup and Champions League games, and the the transfer of Mario Gotze back to Borussia Dortmund, there is a good enough chance that Green could see some valuable time on the field.

It is also been good for the Tampa-born Green that he has come to grips with his failures the past couple of seasons, kept his head down and worked hard to get another crack with Bayern. And it appears that he has the faith of the coach and teammates as he strives make the field this season for the Bavarians.

Ancelotti has been quoted as saying the Green "will be important for the club this season," while teammate Javi Martinez said he believes the youngster "will get many opportunities."

With that kind of backing, it will be exciting to see how Green can contribute to Bayern's campaign this season when the coach calls his number.
