BARRY JOINS FSV FRANKFURT
American defender Shawn Barry has said auf wiedersehen to Austria and hallo to Germany as he signed a deal with 2. Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt.
The deal, which was announced last Friday, will see the Florida native play for the Bornheimer for the next three years.
Barry, 25, started his professional career in Austria where he signed with LASK Linz in 2010. After spending some time with the team's junior side, he was promoted to the first team and made his debut on May 22, 2011 in a 1-0 loss to Wacker Innsbruck.
The signing of the former Virgina Cavelier was highly welcomed by Frankfurt head coach Tomas Oral who believes that Barry is a "very versatile player."
"I can play him on both the left and right. I have observed him for a while. He is a robust player who also has his offensive qualities," he said on FSV Frankfurt's website.
Barry's signing with Frankfurt makes him the fifth American player to represent the team after the likes of Chris Henderson, Kenneth Kronholm, Matt Taylor and Andrew Wooten.
The defender will be looking to make the team's starting lineup quickly as they start their season with a DfB-Pokal first round game at BFC Dynamo on August 7.
