PREVIEW: GALAXY - SOUNDERS
The Los Angeles Galaxy will face a familiar foe Sunday during the opener for the Western Conference Championship as they host the Seattle Sounders in the first of a two-legged series.
The star-studded lineups will feature some of the top talent in the league. Both teams were at the top of the Supporters Shield race, with the Sounders narrowly edging out the Galaxy in the final days of the season.
The Galaxy will field a team of stars fresh off a thumping of Real Salt Lake, defeating them 5-0 in the Western Conference semifinals. Landon Donovan recorded an assist, and knotted three goals for the four time defending champions.
Star forward and MVP finalist Robbie Keane will lead the attack for the Galaxy after scoring 20 goals during the regular season.
The Sounders are with their own scoring threats, with a combined 32 goals in the regular season between forwards Clint Dempsey and striker Obafemi Martins.
In his first full season back in the US, the former Fulham man Dempsey netted an impressive 14 goals despite making just 23 appearances due to World Cup duties. He will be squaring off against his long-time national team attacking partner Donovan, who is heading toward his impending retirement in scintillating fashion.
The Sounders edged out FC Dallas in the semifinals with a 1-1 aggregate, advancing on an away goal in the first leg.
In the three regular season meetings between these two teams, each took one shut-out victory over their opponent, with the third being a 2-2 draw.
The two will square off in the return leg one week later on November 30th at Century Link field in Seattle.
