USMNT RATINGS VS. NIGERIA
The USA defeated Nigeria 2-1 Saturday in the final game of the send off series, before the USA travels to Brazil. Here are the Yanks-Abroad ratings from the match:
Tim Howard - 6.5 -
Not tested very much, but when we was called on he came up big, especially on a free header early in the game.
Fabian Johnson - 7.5 -
Impressive again going forward and in defense. Made a critical tackle on Victor Moses, and had an impressive run and assist on Altidore's first goal.
Geoff Cameron - 6.5 -
Showed well against a speedy offense, and used his physical presence to break up potentially dangerous plays.
Matt Besler - 6.0 -
Not tested much, but showed improved communication with the other defenders.
DeMarcus Beasley - 6.0
- Offered pace going forward, and held his own going back. Enough to see him start past Timmy Chandler? Yet to be seen.
Kyle Beckerman - 6.0 -
Solid day of work, added a great defensive presence, and allowed Bradley to move forward into the attack more.
Jermaine Jones - 6.5 -
Great game defensively from Jermaine, that opened up the game offensively. One slight critique from this game is that is passing could have been a little bit more accurate, as it moved teammates out of potential goal scoring opportunities.
Alejandro Bedoya - 5.5 -
some questionable decision-making going forward, and his service into the box left much to be desired, but he had a great pass to Fabian Johnson in the lead up to the first goal.
Michael Bradley - 6.5 -
Started slow, but had some superb passes, including the over the top ball that led to Altidore's second.
Clint Dempsey - 6.5 -
Was very active in the attack, and probably should have scored in his one on one opportunity with the keeper. Showed some skill and class in tight situations to break out of them.
Jozy Altidore - 8.0 and MOTM -
Great position on the first goal. Superb hold up play and a great near-post finish against one of the better keepers in the French league.
Graham Zusi - 6.5 -
Very impressive with his passing upon entering into the match. Made the argument between himself and Bedoya for the starting role much more difficult for Klinsmann.
Mix Diskerud - 6.0 -
Got into a great position, and put a shot on goal. Did well as a sub in Kyle Beckerman's role.
Timmy Chandler - N/A
- Showed well moving forward, and almost notched an assist late, but was on the field too little for a full rating
Omar Gonzalez - 5.0 -
Partly at fault for the penalty, for not closing down his man. Looked noticeably out of sync with his other defenders.
Chris Wondolowski - N/A
- Too little time on the field.
Jurgen Klinsmann - 7.0 -
Kudos to the coach for going back to the formation that works, and getting arguably the strongest lineup on the field, and it paid off. Also, Jurgen kept faith in Jozy during his drought, allowing him to break through in a big way.
