RECAP: HELMOND SPORT 1 - 4 WILLEM II
Willem II's stalwart defense slammed the door shut on Charles Kazlauskas and Helmond this weekend, as Helmond were spared the blushes of getting shutout at home by a Willem own goal.
Kazlauskas and his defensive teammates were immediately put under undue stress in the 27th minute when Helmond striker Davy Brouwers was red carded for a vicious tackle.
Willem soon capitalized in the man advantage when Brazilian Bruno Andrade put the guests up in the 31st minute. The striker got on the end of Armenian international Norair Mamedov's cross to make it 1-0.
Helmond were given a lifeline when, in the 49th minute, Willem captain Jordens Peters played a back pass to unsuspecting keeper Peter Swinkels, who could do nothing to keep it out of the net, knotting the score although the visitors were dominating the affair.
Willem were immediately back on the front foot, however, and Ruud Boymans put home a rebound off an Andrade shot just five minutes later to put Willem back ahead in the 54th minute. The Brazilian was back at it again in the 69th minute, as he struck a beautiful low shot past Helmond keeper Wouter van der Steen and just inside the far post to give Willem a commanding 3-1 lead.
The guests were not done, however, as Terell Ondaan settled the scoreline in the 89th minute, sending Kazlauskas and company off of the field to the tune of 4-1.
Having been outscored 7-2 in their last two games, Helmond will look to right the ship Friday against Sparta Rotterdam.
