RECAP: LYNGBY BK 1 - 0 VIBORG FF
Babajide Ogunbiyi and Viborg saw their run in the Danish Cup come to an end, losing by the narrowest of margins to Lyngby BK on Wednesday evening.
Viborg's surprisingly strong start to their first Superliga campaign in years has seen the surge into the upper echelon of the league standings in recent weeks. A contest against a Lyngby squad which has thus far proven to be mediocre one division below looked to be a perfect opportunity to reach the final 16 of the competition.
Lyngby looked the better of the two teams in the first half, stringing together the greater supply of chances while limiting the Greens to the occasional counter-attack.
Ogunbiyi and the Viborg defense did do well to limit any nail-biting moments of danger from their hosts, however a momentary lapse by one of his back line compatriots led to the lone goal of the game.
In the 63rd minute, Lyngby forward David Boysen slipped by thanks to lax defending from right back Christopher Poulsen, and fed Frederik Gytkjær the ball in front of goal for the simple finish past helpless Viborg keeper Michal Pekovič.
That goal seemed to strike the death blow to the visitors, and while they did host most of possession the final half-hour, they were rarely of any threat to their hosts' goal.
Viborg return to league action, where they will try to extend their current three-game unbeaten run when they visit Aalborg on Sunday.
