RECAP: BRUGGE 4 - 0 ANDERLECHT
Anderlecht fans traveled to the Venice of the North on Saturday only to see their team humiliated by Club Brugge as Silvio Proto had to pick the ball out of his net four times in Pro League action.
Sacha Kljestan lined up in les Mauves midfield but even he couldn't do much about the onslaught of goals as the Blue-Blacks of Brugge dominated the game.
The Anderlecht back four did their fair share of defending but in the 31st minute the home team finally found a way through but it was from the penalty spot, which was given up by Serbian midfielder Luka Milivojevic . Timmy Simons did the honors and sent the fans into a frenzy when he rippled the back of the net.
Both teams went into the locker rooms at half time with just a goal between them. Anderlecht had time to recover from their abysmal performance but obviously John van den Brom's motivational half time speech fell on deaf ears because Brugge doubled their lead just before the hour mark. This time it was their 21 year old striker Maxime Lestienne. The young man beat Proto for his fifth goal of the season. Not happy with that, Lestienne struck again in the 75th minute to add to les Mauves' woes.
Ex-Anderlecht man Tom De Sutter came off for Kehinde Fatai ten minutes before full time. The on loan Nigerian from Romanian team FC Astra Giurgiu saw his name on the score board eight minutes later.
With five teenagers on the field for les Mauves, van den Brom perhaps didn't give Club the respect that they deserved and ended up paying for it. While they're able to destroy the little teams such as Charleroi (5-2), Gent (4-1) and Cercle Brugge (4-0); they tend to run into trouble with teams that possess a bit of quality in their line-ups.They have already lost thrice this season after playing eight times.
Next up for fifth place Anderlecht they will host second division Eupen in the Belgian Cup before hosting Lierse on Sunday afternoon.
