RECAP: CRICIUMA 3-1 BAHIA
NICK LEYDEN - Sunday, May 26, 2013
Freddy Adu was a late substitute for Bahia as they opened the season with a loss on the road to Criciuma.

Criciuma 3-1 Bahia

The newly promoted hosts, playing their first game in the Brasileirao since 2004, took advantage of playing against a team in flux on the season's opening weekend.

Playing under brand new coach Cristovao Borges, Bahia was largely unimpressive.

Matheus Ferraz put Criciuma up 1-0 with a header off a free kick immediately before halftime, and the lead was doubled by Lins just two minutes after the break.

To complicate matters even more Borges was forced to replace his ‘keeper, Marcelo Lomba, after the second goal because of an injury.

In the 72nd minute Diones pulled one back for Bahia, temporarily giving the visitors hope before an impressive strike from Joao Vitor made it 3-1 in the 82nd minute.

Adu did replace Ryder following the goal and played primarily wide on the left.

The US international had little opportunity to make an impact but did play one dangerous free kick towards Fernandao in the box.

Adu and company will look for a better performance and result on 5/29 when they take on Coritiba, who finished just a single point ahead of Bahia last season.
