Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander suffered a costly home loss to Barcelona II on Friday.

Barcelona II 2 - Racing Santander 1

Bocanegra played 90 minutes and picked up a yellow card as the Highlanders were unable to hold their one goal lead and Barcelona's youngster's picked up a win on the road.

Gai Assulin gave Santander the early lead with a 10th minute goal, his third of the season and the hosts looked to buckle down on defense and absorb the Barcelona attack. However, the highest scoring team in the Segunda División would not be denied.

Highly rated Brazilian Rafael Alcântara was able to pull one back through his strike in the 43rd minute and the teams went into halftime tied at one.

Barcelona continued possession and pressure in the second half and Santander were unable to get a counterattacking goal. It looked as though the two would share the points when substitute midfielder Lobato scored and broke the hearts of the Santander crowd.

With the loss, Santander fall further away from safety and are in 21st position with 35 points. They are six points behind Hércules and Mirandés, who are the last two teams safe from relegation at this point. They have six matches left to avoid their second relegation in two years.

Next up for the Bocanegra and the Highlander's is a visit to fifth place Almería.

Oguchi Onyewu did not make the 18 as Málaga beat Getafe 2-1 on Sunday.
