Carlos Bocanegra made his second straight start as Racing Santander beat Alcorcón on Sunday.

Racing Santander 1 Alcorcón 0

The Highlander's went on the road and picked up a crucial three points by shutting out fifth place Alcorcón on their home turf. With the win, Santander moves one point clear of the relegation zone and into 17th place with 35 points. They hold a goal advantage over Real Murcia and Mirandés, who also have 35 points.

A 19th minute strike by Héctor Yuste, his first of the season, was all Santander needed to pick up a big road win. The hosts peppered the Santander goal in search of an equalizer but Bocanegra and the Highlander defense held strong and recorded their second straight shutout.

Since Bocanegra's return to the starting lineup, Santander have gone 180 straight minutes without giving up a goal against two of the top five in the league.

Things don't get any easier for the Green and White as they next welcome fourth place Girona to El Sardinero. Girona are coming off an impressive 5-2 thrashing of Real Murcia and are looking for their first ever promotion to La Liga.

Oguchi Onyewu did not make the 18 as Málaga fell to Real Sociedad 4-2.
