NGUYEN INKS PSV CONTRACT - REPORT
Saturday, January 14, 2006
Indiana University sensation Lee Nguyen has all but completed a deal to join Dutch champs PSV Eindhoven on a three-and-a-half year contract.

The US Under-20 attacker passed a medical on Friday, and now only needs USSF paperwork filed to complete the move.

A consensus Freshman All-American and Big 10 Freshman of the Year in 2005, Nguyen is regarded by PSV boss Guus Hiddink as a 'player for the future'.

The shifty Texan saw his technical skills praised publicly by the coach, who then tabled a bid at the end of a second De Herdgang trial.

Nguyen will earn a salary close to the Eredivisie non-European Union minimum of 451,000, although Eindhovens Dagblad reported that PSV and US National Team sponsor Nike will be picking up part of the tab.

The 19-year old also holds a wage bump clause based on a minimum number of first team appearances.

Nguyen will begin playing with Young PSV, and will likely need to battle for playing time with speedster Roy Beerens, one of the Farmers' top prospects.

Hiddink foremost views the versatile American as a future right wing option, and he will periodically train with the first team.
