A short-handed American team fell to fellow World Cup qualifiers Honduras in Carson Saturday night, 3-1, as central defender Jimmy Conrad was sent off after only 17 minutes.

This week the USA Under-17 team lost to Italy 2-1 in the round of 16 at the U17 World Cup and will be coming home earlier than some people had expected. Despite the fact that some will label this tournament as a disappointment, history may still yet prove this to be a very productive group of young players.

I haven't posted in the last few days since it has been almost impossible to access internet here in Nigeria. As much as I'd like to say all the fears of organizational disaster in Nigeria were overblown, it seems they were instead well founded. Sufficed to say I'm really feeling Chinua Achebe right now.
