ANDY SCHREUR - Sunday, February 3, 2013
Jozy Altidore and AZ Alkmaar were held scoreless and fell to Groningen at home on Saturday.

AZ was the more aggressive team through but tough team defense by Groningen and falls to a disappointing 10th place in the Eredivisie.

A 27th minute strike by Andraž Kirm proved enough as Groningen were happy to sit back and defend for the remainder of the match. Viktor Elm was sent off with a straight red card in the 65yth minute, making it even more difficult for AZ to get a breakthrough goal. Altidore also picked up a yellow card in the 78th minute for a hard foul.

The loss breaks AZ's two match winning streak to start off 2013 and sees them move 22 points behind PSV and 19 behind Ajax.

AZ next travel south to Rotterdam and will take on Feyenoord on Sunday.
