Ugly scenes during AZ Alkmaar's cup thrashing against Den Bosch, as racial taunts directed at Jozy Altidore overshadowed an otherwise positive result.

Altidore and Alkmaar entered the match wanted to avoid the upset and came out flying.

Swedish striker Viktor Elm found the back of the net after just five minutes had elapsed hammering home a left-footed volley from close range.

Johan Gudmundsson put the guests up by two when the Icelander collected a pass on the edge of the box and fired home with a fierce left footed shot in the 23rd, before Adam Maher made it three a few minutes later finishing off a nice flowing movement by converting from the spot into an open net.

In the 38th minute Den Bosch center back Jelle de Bock was shown a red for a professional foul in the box with Altidore stepping up to make it four from the spot.

The match then turned ugly, with Altidore the target of racial abuse from some of the Den Bosch supporters. Referee Reinold Wiedemeijer wanted to stop the match in the 51st minute, but Alkmaar, and Altidore himself, persuaded him otherwise.

Den Bosch also had a second man sent off, left back Joey Brock, in the same minute, which seemed to set off the racial taunting.

Alkmaar rounded off the scoring midway through the second half as Altidore laid off for Maher, who bagged his second.

Hey Den Bosch have always had "fans" that were less than pleasant ... nothing new there at all, but when the home side is collapsing... well things are much more likely to get nasty. Glad Jozy seems to be healthy and regularly scoring now... hope he has saved a goal or two for Honduras, were I can guarantee he will again be greeted with less than "sweetness" especially if he does manage to slot a goal.

Interesting summary-can't ever remember seeing one that didn't lead with, or even mention, the final score- 5-0 Alkmaar? But kudos to Altidore for soldering on in the face of the taunting-
