KLINSMANN NAMES 25 FOR CAMP
PREVIEWS
EXTRA TIME
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Sunday, January 6, 2013
US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann today revealed his roster for the annual January camp.

The roster consists mostly of MLS players with only Alfredo Morales, Mix Diskerud, Alejandro Bedoya, and Joshua Gatt playing their trades abroad.

The most anticipated player on the roster is Omar Gonzalez who was expected to make his introduction into the team last year but was sidelined by a torn ACL. His return to the Galaxy in July helped boost the club to its second straight MLS Cup. With the US team struggling in central defense, it will be an important camp for Gonzalez and Sporting Kansas City's Matt Besler who was named the 2012 MLS Defender of the Year.

The roster is young by also one of experience. Conor Lade is the only player on the roster coming off his rookie season. The wingback for the Red Bulls impressed with his stamina and skills in moving forward.

There are also several notable omissions in this roster. Steve Clark was not named to the roster despite winning the goalkeeper of the year in Norway. Conor O'Brien enjoyed a standout year in the Danish Superliga with Sonderjyske and Amobi Okugo was very strong for Philadelphia in 2012 after being converted to central defense.

Klinsmann also revealed on Sunday that he is unsure as to the future of Landon Donovan who is reportedly contemplating retirement. Klinsmann went onto indicate that Donovan will not be considered for the US team's opening Hexagonal game against Honduras.
