Carlos Bocanegra returned from injury two weeks early but was unable help Racing Santander earn a result against Sabadell.

Racing Santander 0 - 1 Sabadell

Racing Santander's terrible season continued on Saturday with a loss to Sabadell which sent them further into the relegation zone in the Segunda.

Carlos Bocanegra returned from injury, played 90 minutes and picked up a yellow card in Racing Santander's home loss to Sabadell.

Manuel Lanzarote scored the only goal of the game for Sabadell in the eighth minute when he put a toe poke past Highlanders' keeper Mario for what amounted to the game winner. The early counterattack took Racing off guard and Lanza made them pay. Despite constant pressure in the second half, Racing was unable to take advantage and equalize. Bocanegra picked up a yellow card in the 75th minute, his second this season.

On Tuesday, Racing fired Fabri González and appointed former Zaragoza manager José Aurelio Gay after a horrendous start to the 2012-2013 season. The defeat sees Racing fall into a tie for last place in the Segunda División and is their sixth consecutive loss. Sunday's lineup saw significant changes from last week but the defeat will send Gay back to the drawing board as he continues to find his best eleven.

A healthy Bocanegra figures to be at the center of his plans after going 90 minutes in his first game back after missing over a month with a hamstring injury suffered in the US and Russia friendly.

Racing's next, and final match before the winter break sees them travel to Guadalajara in a matchup of teams fighting to get out of the relegation zone. Recently appointed Gay will certainly hope for a win heading into what will feel like a long break for the Highlander's.

Notes:

Oguchi Onyewu was not included in the 18 as Málaga beat Sevilla 2-0 on Saturday to remain in fourth place in the Spanish league. They take on Eibar in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, a game in which Oneywu is expected to play.
