KLINSMANN NAMES 20 FOR RUSSIA
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, November 12, 2012
United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann today announced a 20-player roster for Wednesday's friendly against Russia in Krasnodar.

The roster contains a mix of veterans and newcomers, with the most notable new faces being Josh Gatt and Joe Gyau. Both wingers will be looking to earn their first caps for the US and provide the team with speed from wide positions.

The game will also mark the return of Timothy Chandler, who was uncommitted on playing for the US but has now indicated he wants to return to the team and be part of its buildup to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Juan Agudelo is also another player who is surprisingly included on the roster after a long absence from the team. The former U-23 player was traded from the New York Red Bulls earlier in the MLS season and struggled at Chivas USA before finishing on a high note.

The US national team will also be without key players Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan. While Dempsey is still adjusting to Tottenham after transferring from Fulham in August, Donovan is currently busy with Los Angeles Galaxy, who are in the midst of the MLS playoffs.

Can someone please enlighten me as to what Joe Gyau,Sasha or Joe Corona have done as professionals or with the Nat team and why they deserve to be called up. Wouldn't we be better off with more proven players who are still young like Zusi, Shea or Freddy Adu. All three of these guys have shown they can produce offensively on an international level. They do however need more chances to play with the 1st team.

Stone:

Your lineup is good except Jones should be replaced with Diskerud, Klejstan, or preferably Torres if he was in the team. Williams, Jones, and Bradley are all strong, defensive, box-to-box midfielders and we need more creativity in the midfield and someone who can distribute the ball well. Also, Gyau isn't good enough to start yet. Gomez plays on the left wing sometimes so we should put him there for this game.

The other issue is we need to think about who will play CB in 2014: Bocanegra will be too old and I'm not convinced by Parkhurst or Goodson. I think we should test out Edu back there again.

If playing time with your club is a factor, then I am not sure why Edu is there. Whitbread and possibly Ream should have gotten a call.

Interested to see Mix get some time. His creativity with Bradley's control of the game should be fun (hopefully).

The 6 substitutions available might nullify this, but I feel that Russia has been having problems with keeping their form/breath for the full 90 minutes. I wanna see 1 or 2 young guys start, but the vast majority of the first XI should be our more experienced players. We'll need to have little to no defensive lapses in the first half, because the Russians will make us pay for it. Hopefully we don't have one of our undesirably common early F-ups against a talented offense and our speedy young guys can sub on and play a good 30-45 minutes against a team with obvious stamina issues. We may concede a goal but should be able to snatch ourselves a few towards the end of the match (barring a disaster).

Good to see some new younger players getting phased in. I don't like having Chandler because he is not committed to the US. Other than that this is a good squad to develop into the team.

VERY VERY GOOOOOD!!!. I just think that should be Alejandro Bedoya and Connor O`Brien, for the roster, would be excellent. With Alejandro Bedoya, playing the position he normally plays Dempsey, the roster would be very complete, almost perfect (perfection does not exist -says-).

Good looking roster, very happy with it. Jk only called in gyau because of deuce and dono absent as well as shea injury..I think whitbred would of been a good selection, to see how he compares to our current CB's. Looking foward to game tho.
