Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander get a much needed win, while Oguchi Onyewu was an unused sub for Malaga.

Racing Santander 2 - AD Alcorcón 1

Carlos Bocanegra went the full 90 minutes and Racing Santander were able to get their first win in a month versus visiting Alcorcón. With the win, the Highlanders move clear of relegation and into 13th place.

In a rainy Estadio El Sardinero, Alcorcón began the match with a flourish, but Racing struck first in the 18th minute. Alex Goikoetxea rose and connected on a corner kick, powerfully heading it into the bottom corner past Alcorcón keeper Manu Fernández. Just five minutes later, Racing appeared to score their second on a counter attack but it was ruled offside by the assistant referee.

Racing continued pressing for another goal in the second half, forcing some solid saves by Fernández. Finally, in the 72nd minute, Racing got their second goal on a quick counterattack, and Jairo connected on a cross after being left alone back post and blasted it past the hapless goalkeeper.

Alcorcón were able to add one goal in the 93rd minute, when Fernando Sales was able to sneak past the Racing defense and swiftly tap in the goal with the outside of his foot. However, the whistle blew immediately after the goal and Racing held on for the victory.

Racing's next match sees them travel to second place Girona, who has not lost in five matches. Alcorcón welcomes Lugo to Madrid for their next match.

Notes:

Oguchi Onyewu was an unused substitute in Malaga's disappointing 2-1 home loss to Rayo Vallecano
