EDGAR ZUNIGA - Sunday, October 7, 2012
Herculez Gomez was the lone bright spot for Santos, Michael Orozco got a front row seat to the butchering of San Luis and Edgar Castillo helped put out Toluca's fire and carry Tijuana back to first.

Queretaro 1 - 1 Santos Laguna

Hérculez Gómez was finally back in the starting lineup, scoring for Santo Laguna, who had to settle for a disappointing draw with moribund Queretaro.

Gomez put Santos ahead in the 37th minute, taking the ball in box and evading Queretaro 'keeper Juan Castillo to slot home the goal.

Queretaro outplayed Santos throughout, but were unable to finish their opportunities until the 51st minute, when Luis Ángel Landín tapped a goal past the outstretched hands of Santos 'keeper Oswaldo Sanchez.

Other than the single concession, Sanchez was solid, stopping Queretaro on several occasions and saving Santos the shame of losing to the bottom dwellers.

Benji Joya, who has been raising his profile with Santos saw no playing time.

Jaguares 4 - 0 San Luis

Michael Orozco finally made it back to the San Luis starting lineup, just in time to watch his team get ripped to pieces by Jaguares.

There was very little that Orozco and the rest of the San Luis defensive line could do to stem the attack from the Colombian trio of John Córdoba, Luis Gabriel Rey and Franco Arizala, who peppered César Lozano's goal.

Rey got the massacre started in the ninth minute, scoring again in the 26th minute off a pass from Córdoba.

Córdoba made it 3-0 to begin the second half, and Arizala finished off the feast in the 84th minute.

The score would have been more inflated but Jaguares gave themselves the luxury of missing several clear scoring chances

San Luis fall to the penultimate spot in the division.

Club Tijuana 1 - 0 Toluca

In what was a tense battle from start to finish, a tremendous goal by Duvier Riascos was the difference as Club Tijuana climbed back into first place, knocking Toluca off the mountain.

Edgar Castillo got the start and went all 90 in helping the Xoloitzcuintles smother the explosive Toluca offense.

Riascos scored his goal in the 50th minute, shaking off Toluca defenders Edgar Dueñas and Gerardo Rodríguez, streaking into the box and blasting a cross into the net.

Joe Corona subbed into the match in the 61st minute but was unable to add to his team's lead, while Greg Garza didn't see any playing time.

The Xolos now find themselves in sole possession of first with 27 points, while Toluca falls to second with 26.

Notes

Puebla won again with DaMarcus Beasley out of the lineup, beating Tigres 2-1.

José Francisco Torres was absent in Pachuca's 1-1 draw with third-place León
