EDGAR ZUNIGA - Friday, October 5, 2012
Look for Benji Joya to get another start for Santos Laguna, while Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona will take part in epic clash between front runners Toluca and Club Tijuana.
Queretaro vs. Santos Laguna
Anything that can go wrong has gone that way for awfully miserable basement dwellers Queretaro, who got destroyed by first-place Toluca 4-1 last week and now boast an abominable -17 goal differential.
Meanwhile, Santos enters the weekend in fifth place, riding a three-game unbeaten streak and looking to keep pace with the front runners.
Hérculez Gómez has missed the last two games but might see some playing time against the lowly Gallos Blancos. Meanwhile, Benji Joya, who got the start and played half the game last week against Atlas, will probably get another start and might even go the full 90.
Tigres vs. Puebla
DaMarcus Beasley and his Puebla pals venture into Tigres' famed El Volcan, hoping to somehow crawl out of the depths of the league table.
The game also marks the return of Puebla coach Daniel Guzmán to the home of his former team, who released him two years ago.
Tigres is looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss in Guadalajara against Chivas, while Puebla is hoping to reach three wins after defeating Pachuca 2-0 last week-a game in which Beasley didn't get any playing time at all after having started every game in the season, until that point.
Pachuca vs. León
Although both teams share the same owner, their fortunes couldn't be more disparate. While León has impressed with a potent offense that has them in third place, José Francisco Torres and his Pachuca mates have lacked any scoring punch and, overall, the team has been a huge disappointment.
Nevertheless, Pachuca has dominated the history of encounters between both teams, taking 6 wins and 4 draws in 12 encounters with León. And, despite their struggles, Pachuca has played well at home and will look to win their third consecutive match at Estadio Hidalgo.
Notwithstanding, León remains a huge favorite to win the match and keep Pachuca hovering just above the bottom of the table.
Club Tijuana vs. Toluca
A huge match between the top two teams in the league, Tijuana has the edge of playing at home, where they remain undefeated this season. However, Toluca has been formidable on the road, having lost just one match as visitors.
It's a recipe for a terrific match.
Look for Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona to both get the start for the Xoloitzcuintles, but with such high stakes at play, Greg Garza will most likely continue riding the bench.
With Toluca holding a 2-point edge over Tijuana, this match might just decide who finishes in first place.
Michael Orozco Fiscal will hope to start for San Luis against Jaguares this weekend
