JOHN KRETLOW - Tuesday, September 18, 2012
Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City beat Bolton in midweek Championship action, while Frank Simek and Carlisle United drew with Crewe Alexandria down in League One.

Birmingham City 2 - 1 Bolton Wanderers

Jonathan Spector started and went the distance in Birmingham City's victory over Bolton.

Tim Ream did not feature for Bolton in this game, while Birmingham's Will Packwood did not dress.

Birmingham City opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Wade Elliott fed Leroy Lita who found the back of the net, but just before half time Bolton struck back when Chris Eagles curled in an impressive free kick from 30 yards.

Right after the breakthough, the Blues regained the lead after Marlon King was taken down in the box by Marcos Alonso and the convicted felon buried the ensuing penalty kick putting Birmingham back ahead.

Despite Bolton's dominance in shots, shots on goal, and possession, they were not able to capitalize and level the match.

The Blues take the field once again and will try and turn this momentum into another three points against Barnsley.

Carlisle United 0 - 0 Crewe Alexandria

Frank Simek played the full ninety minutes in Carlisle United's scoreless draw with Crewe Alexandria.

Despite both teams having clear offensive threats, neither could find the back of the net.

The Cumbrians came close midway through the second half when Carlisle substitute forward Joe Garner hit the post.

Ajay Leitch-Smith nearly put Crewe Alexandria in the lead when his shot in the 70th minute also hit the woodwork.

The Cumbrians currently are in 14th place in the League One standings and hope to climb the ladder when they play Coventry City on Satyrday.

Conor Doyle did not see the field in Derby County's win over Charlton Athletic.

Robbie Findley did not dress in Nottingham Forest's draw with Crystal Palace.

Seb Hines did not feature in Middlesbrough's big loss to Blackpool.

Mike Grella made a cameo appearance in Scunthorpe United's draw with Oldham Athletic.

Robbie Rogers did not make the game day lineup in Stevenage's win over Walsall.

Jon Paul Pittman came off injured in the 12th minute of Oxford United's loss to Cheltenham Town.
