BRENDAN WIMBERLY - Friday, July 27, 2012
Ryan Miller and his Halmstad teammates face off against Gregg Berhalter and his Hammarby charges while Matt Pyzdrowski and Angelholm look to continue their winning streak against Trelleborg.
Jonkopings Sodra IF - Degerfors IF
Brian Edwards will be in net as Degerfors travel to take on Jonkopings this Saturday.
Edwards was integral in helping Degerfors come from two goals down to draw with league leaders Osters last weekend, making numerous acrobatic saves two preserve the scoreline.
Degerfors come in to the match in 13th place in the Superettan with 15 points, needing a mere 3 points to escape the drop zone.
Jonkopings are currently in eighth place with 21 points and they are still searching for a replacement for the dynamic Branimir Hrgota in midifield. The 19 year old Swede departed for Borussia Monchengladbach over the Summer break after netting 10 goals in 14 matches for Jonkopings.
Degerfors will be without a few key contributors this weekend as Johan Kristiansson, Gheorge Andronic and Niklas Klingberg will miss the match due to injury while Daniel Sundgren will be out due to yellow card accumulation.
Jonkopings face a couple game day decisions this week as Par Cedarqvist and Phillip Djup both missed last weekends match due to injury and their status for this weekends match has not been clarified.
Halmstad BK - Hammarby IF
Ryan Miller leads his Halmstad teammates up against Hammarby and their American contingent this Sunday.
Miller should start at right back for Halmstad while Hammarby's American manager Gregg Berhalter is certain to use Baggio Husidic in the central midfield to start the match and will most likely use striker Billy Schuler as a second half subsitution.
It should be a hotly contested match as both sides are currently standing on the cusp of potential promotion, on the outside looking in. Halmstad are in fourth place with 28 points, trailing Angelholm by one point, while Hammarby are in sixth place with 23 points.
Hammarby have taken a blow this week, learning that hard tackling midfielder Daniel Theorin will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. In addition, both Sebastian Castro-Tello and Sebastian Bojassen will have to sit out due to red cards acquired against Jonkopings last week. On the positive front, new signings Nik Ledgerwood and Mattias Adel Tribe both looked primed for their Bajen debuts.
Halmstad are not reporting any injury or suspension news, and manager Jens Gustafsson should have his whole squad to choose from Sunday.
Angelholm FF - Trelleborg FF
Matt Pyzdrowski and his Angelholm teammates hope to continue their hot streak on Sunday when they host Superettan bottom feeders Trelleborg, who are still searching for their first away win this season.
Angelholm have won their last three matches and currently find themselves in the promotion picture, sitting in third place with 29 points, which would be good enough for the promotion playoffs if they were to start today.
Trelleborg have struggled this season, as they are in 14th place and currently find themselves in the relegation playoffs. Times could be worse however, as half of Trelleborgs 12 points have been gained in their last four matches in which they have won twice.
Angelholm have been regaining health over the last few weeks and aren't reporting any major injury concerns. Trelleborg are in a similar situation to Angelholm with no major contributors expected to miss the match.
Notes: Patrick Hopkins picked up a jaw injury last week and isn't expected to feature for Ljungskile this week...Brian Span could see action as a second half sub for Djurgarden when they take on league leaders Elfsborg.
