BRENDAN WIMBERLY - Monday, July 16, 2012
Brian Span played the second half for Djurgarden, who saw their lead fade with just minutes left as they were forced to settle for a draw with Norrkoping.
Daniel Sjolund opened the scoring for Djurgarden in the 31st minute. Seventeen-year old Simon Tibbling played a pass to the Finnish midfielder who put a beautiful strike on the ball from range to give his side the lead.
Sebastian Rajalasko limped off at halftime and Djurgarden manger Magnus Pehrsson elected Span to take his place at the start of the second half.
Minutes into the second half Span nearly doubled Djurgardens lead off of a corner, but his shot was nicely parried away by David Nilsson in Norrkopings net.
Djurgarden controlled possession as the half went along, but their lead would succumb to Norrkopings late pressure in the 84th minute. Christoffer Nyman had come on in the 56th minute to add life to the Norrkopings attack, and the 19 year old did just that, sending a header home from a cross with minutes left to tie the game.
The two clubs meet again next week when Norrkoping host Djurgarden.
