BRENDAN WIMBERLY - Tuesday, July 3, 2012
Matt Pyzdrowski saved a penalty to preserve Angelholm's win while Ryan Miller was part of Halmstads' squad which faced off against regional rivals Falkenberg for the first time in 24 years.

Osters IF 2 - 0 Degerfors IF

Brian Edwards and Degerfors gave it a good effort, but it was not enough to overcome Osters, as they continued their dominance over the Superettan this season.

Degerfors pressed the home side from the kick off, but Osters were able to go ahead in the 15th minute. Dennis Velic swung in a corner kick, and the Osters go-to guy for spot kicks did not disappoint, finding the forehead of Mario Vasilij. The defender sent a nice header sizzling past Brian Edwards outstretched right glove to give Osters the lead.

Degerfors resisted the lead and challenged Osters throughout. The visitors believed they had legitimate claim to a penalty late in the first half, but the official ruled that Alexander Nadj made a clean tackle on Kwame Karikari in the box, much to the Liberian strikers dismay.

Osters would ice the game in the 88th minute through a Matteo Blomqvist Zampi header, service once again being provided by Velic. David Thor Vidarsson provided a scintilating run from his left back position before laying off the ball to Velic, who subsequently provided a typically brilliant cross which allowed Zampi to finish off the play with a thunderous header past Edwards, who could do little to prevent it from reaching the back of the net.

Although disappointed in not gaining any points from the match, Degerfors performed well and will hope to change the scoreline around next week when they host Osters.

Angelholm FF 3 - 2 Varberg BoIS

Matt Pyzdrowski received some goal support from his teammates as the keeper saw his Angelholm side prevail over Varberg.

Heidar Juliusson didn't waste much time giving Angelholm the lead. The Icelandic midfielder received a cross from Mikael Dahlgren in the 11th minute which he finished to gave Angelholms the lead.

Robin Simovic would put the game out of reach over the next few minutes. In the 14th minute, the striker received a pass from Jonas Nilsson and sent the ball into the net on a brilliant shot off the half volley. Simovic added a second goal in the 27th minute. This time Bjorn Westerblad found the striker alone in the penalty area, who simply slotted the ball home.

Varberg were thrown a lifeline in the 40th minute when Gabriel Altemark-Vanneyr was pulled down in the penalty area by Robin Nilsson. Vanneyr took the penalty kick himself, but was denied as Pyzdrowski made a fantastic save.

Pyzdrowskis stop would come up huge at the end of the match. Varberg hit the ground running in the second half and dominated possession, and the break through finally came in the 62nd minute. Ex-Angelholm player Patrik Larsson scored the goal to bring Varberg back into the match.

Alexander Mellqvist scored for Varberg in the 77th minute, to cut the lead to one. However, Angelholm were able to close the match out with the fragile one goal lead, as Pyzdrowskis save on the penalty awarded his side all three points.

Varberg will feel they may have deserved points from the match, and they have their shot at redemption next week when they host Angelholm.

Trelleborg FF 1 - 0 Ljungskile SK

Patrick Hopkins played the entire match for Ljungskile as they dropped a good opportunity to pick up three points, falling to cellar-dwellers Trelleborg.

The goal came through Zoran Jovanovic in the 25th minute. The goal was the first of the season for the defensive midfielder.

Trelleborg faced the prospect of losing their lead in the 75th minute when Ljungskile were awarded a penalty kick. Trelleborg keeper Zlatan Azinovic made a huge save however, and Trelleborg were able to see out the win.

The two teams meet again next weekend when Ljungskile play host.

Jonkopings Sodra IF 1 - 1 Hammarby IF

Baggio Husidic picked up a yellow card as he went the distance for Hammarby once again in their draw with Jonkopings.

The match got off to a quick start with Mikael Rynell smashing a free kick off the cross bar and into the net in the 14th minute.

Marcus Tornstrand made a mistake in the penalty area in the 36th minute, pulling down Par Cederqvist from behind, to give Jonkopings a penalty kick. Branimir Hrgota, in his last match for Sodra before completing a move to German powers Borussia Monchengladbach, stepped up to take the kick and proceeded to bury it.

Billy Schuler came on in the 84th minute to provide a spark in attack, but made no considerable impact as the match ended in a draw.

The two sides renew pleasantries next week when Hammarby host Sodra.

Halmstad BK 1 - 1 Falkenberg FF

Halmstad and Falkenberg renewed a long dormant derby, meeting for the first time since 1988, with American Ryan Miller playing a part. Miller played the entire match for Halmstad at his typical Right Back position, only to see his side squander all three points at the death.

Peter Nystrom gave Halmstad the lead in 30th minute. Christian Jardler sent a corner in to the box which fell into the mixer in front of net. Nystrom played the role of the opportunist, toe poking the ball home.

In the 90th minute, Stefan Rodevag equalized, giving Falkenberg a valuable point, as they hold a tenuous three point lead over Degerfors to clear themselves of the drop zone.

A derby match which had been sidelined for 24 years will meet for the second time in two weeks next weekend as Falkenberg host this time.
