US national team forward Terrence Boyd has left Borussia Dotrmund after completing his transfer to Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna

"Indeed Terrence will play next season for Rapid Vienna," Borussia Dortmund press officer Josef Schneck told YA on Tuesday.

Boyd, 21, had a strong season last year for Dortmund's U-23 team scoring 20 goals in 32 games. His performance was a big reason why their U-23 team was promoted out of Germany's Regionalliga and into the 3.Liga.

Despite not making a first team appearance for Dortmund's top team, the German-born Boyd has become a fixture for the US national team in 2012 where he has four caps. On Saturday night against Antigua and Barbuda in the first World Cup, Boyd entered into the game as a second half substitute and became cap-tied to the United States.

Rapid Vienna finished in second place in the Austrian Bundesliga in 2011/12 and will play in the Europa League.

Eurofan and bummer you guys are pretty naive because if Boyd scores lets say 15+ goals he will probably move to a Bundesliga team after next season.

I might be mistaken, but I've heard that Boyds contract expires at the end of next season. If thatís the case the jump to Rapid not just be a step up for this season but if he scores a boatload of goals this season will be a stepping stone to a much better team and domestic league. He'll probably feature heavily in the Europa League and the Austrian League as well and both tournaments are a huge step up from the regionalia 3.

Boyd was still aways from the Dortmund first squad and starting 11. The move is a good one, especially if you remember that Boyd is only 21 years old.

Sorry to see Terrence join and Austrian Club. This seems to be a step backwards. Klingsman is so excited about Boyd - is he seeing something that no one else is?

Boyd has done fine in his first couple of national team games, but this move has me worried. AUSTRIA????!!!!

Pretty sure that Fabian Johnson filed a one time switch and is now permanently tied to the US program.

What?! Why boyd?! Why go to some lame ass league?!?! Why not challenge yourself in a better league?! All hope is lost now, this guy is going to disappear from all big leagues radar! So much for a promising striker

Is it just me or the injury to Fabian Johnson a delay in playing a match that will cap tie him to the US? I would like to hear in his own words that he intends to play for the US......If he chooses Germany he might have a better chance of making it then Chandler. Fabian, step on the pitch, last 5 min., and take the possibility out of my mind.......If I am right, JK has to make the move and bring in another defender, now....I hope I am wrong!
