Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City beat Barnsley in Championship play this midweek, while Frank Simek and Carlisle United went down hard to Brentford in League One.

Barnsley 1 - 3 Birmingham City

Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City notched a victory against Barnsley in midweek Championship action. Spector started and played 90 minutes before getting subbed out in the dying minutes of the game.

Chris Burke opened the scoring in the eighth minute after his shot found the back of the net after deflecting off Barnsley's Rob Edwards.

Craig Davies was able to level the score in the 19th minute after David Cotterill found him in the box.

The Blues got the lead soon after in the 27th minute when Keith Fahey sent in a drive from over 20 yards that beat Barnsley ‘keeper Luke Steele.

Nathan Redmond iced the game in the 78th minute with an impressive left footed shot after Burke found him with a cross.

David Cotterill and Jim McNulty were booked for Barnsley, while Spector and Jordan Mutch saw yellows for Birmingham.

Birmingham has now stretched their unbeaten streak to 16 games and is in third place in the standings, now just five points off an automatic promotion spot.

Barnsley takes on Coventry City this weekend, while the Blues host Nottingham Forest.

Brentford 4 - 0 Carlisle United

Frank Simek and Carlisle United went down to Brentford in emphatic fashion in League One play. Simek started and went the distance for Carlisle.

The score was already 3-0 in the first half, as Brentford's Harlee Dean, Same Saunders and Saido Berahino found the back of the net.

Berahino got his second of the night in the 53rd minute as Brentford went on to win the game with a shutout.

Peter Murphy was booked for Carlisle.

The Cumbrians are two points from Stevenage who holds the last playoff spot, while Brentford trails Carlisle by three points now.

Brentford takes on Scunthorpe United on Saturday, while Carlisle plays Yeovil Town.


Daniel Potts made the game day roster but did not feature in West Ham United's win over Blackpool. George John did not make the game day roster.
