CHRISTOPHER MCCOLLUM - Friday, February 3, 2012
Herculez Gomez and Santos Laguna go into Week 5 on top of the table, while Jose Torres, Edgar Castillo, and Michael Orozco all sit within four points back.

Santos Laguna - Pumas

Herculez Gomez hasn't made much of an impact yet this season, but he will hope to get off the bench in the latter part of the second half for first place Santos.

Santos Laguna so far shares the best defense and second best offense in the league, and remain one of only four undefeated teams after four weeks of action.

Pumas is the other shareholder for best defense, as both teams have let in only two goals. Pumas sits in 10th place, with five points after four games.

The game could be a drab affair as the two strong defenses face each other, but it seems unlikely considering the firepower that Santos has, but has yet to unleash to its full potential. The game may open up, as Santos presses the attack.

Both teams will have all players available.

Tijuana - Puebla

DaMarcus Beasley was the hero last week, providing the game winning goal for Puebla against Chiapas. He will be expected to continue his starting role, as will Tijuana's Edgar Castillo.

Joe Corona got off the bench early last week, and will be looking to get more action in this game. Greg Garza is not expected to dress.

Tijuana dropped out of first place last week with their loss to Santos Laguna, but will be looking at getting back on track against a weak Puebla team, sitting in 14th place.

Beasley's Puebla look to build on the momentum gained during last week's win over Jaguars, and in the crowded Primera Division table, another win could move them up to 3rd place.

Both teams will have all players available.

San Luis - Monterrey

Michael Orozco and San Luis will be aiming to right the ship after their second straight loss, plummeting them down from one of the best defenses in the league, to one of the most vulnerable.

Orozco has been a consistent 90-minute player, and has been one of the few strong points for the defense in the past two weeks. He appears to be getting his reckless side under control, as his yellow card has gone way down from last season.

San Luis, despite two straight losses, are still only four points off the lead, and two behind second place America.

Monterrey are in 11th place, a point behind San Luis.

Both teams will have all players available.

Pachuca - Toluca

Jose Torres has been having a quietly consistent season entrenched in Pachuca's midfield, though the results have not been coming as expected, as Pachuca has three ties in their four games.

Pachuca sits in 8th place, one point behind 3rd place Toluca.

Toluca lost their first game last week, to drop them off the leader's pace. They will be without starting defender Edgar Duenas due to red card suspension.

Pachuca will be without starting midfielder Hector Rubio, also due to red card suspension.

Notes:

Jonathan Bornstein and Victor Garza featured strongly in Tigres 2-2 tie with Espanola in Copa Libertadores action, but are not expected to play against America.

Marco Vidal is not expected to feature for Club Leon as they take on Lobos BUAP in second division play.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
