BRIAN SCIARETTA - Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Robbie Rogers received his UK work permit today thereby completing his move to Leeds United in the English Championship.

Sources confirmed the deal to YA Wednesday.

Rogers had previously been with Columbus Crew of MLS since 2007. During his time he played in 106 league games and scored 13 goals. In 2008 he was named to the league's best XI and the crew won both the Supporter's Shield and the MLS Cup.

Rogers won his work permit through an appeals process. His case was bolstered by the fact he has been a member of the US national team recently, was on the roster for the last two Gold Cup teams, was on the 2010 preliminary World Cup roster, he played in 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Also, he was a starter on the 2008 US Olympic team and the 2007 U20 World Cup team.

I think work permits in sports are a bunch of BS. I find it amuzing that soccer coaches and owners, who presumably know something about soccer, have to convince some government bureaucrat that a particular player is somehow worthy of playing in the UK. That said, good luck to Robbie.

Heck yeah. I'm excited to see if he lives up to the hype that he failed to in the MLS. Maybe this move to Europe will spark his career! Good luck Robbie
