West Ham United announced today that they have signed US U-20 left back Danny Potts to a two and a half year professional contract.

"West Ham United are delighted to announce that Under-18 captain Danny Potts has signed a two and half year professional contract," the club's official site said today.

Potts, 17, is the son of West Ham legend Steve Potts who was born in the United States to English parents but who moved to England when he was a young child. Steve Potts played for English youth national teams which cap-tied him to England under the old rules.

Danny Potts was born in England had his lived his whole life there. Two years ago he resumed playing after a successful battle with leukemia. In May he made his United States debut with the U-20 team for a pair of friendlies against France.

Potts is still awaiting to make his first team debut for West Ham but he did make the matchday 18 for a game earlier this season before his 18th birthday.

First team debut was this past Saturday due to injuries. He started the game.
