PREVIEW: WEEKEND GERMAN ACTION
EXTRA TIME
CLINT WADDELL - Thursday, September 22, 2011
Timothy Chandler and Nürnberg will be aiming for the top three and Edson Buddle will try to build on last week's performance when Ingolstadt travel to take on Matt Taylor and Paderborn.

Borussia Mönchengladbach - FC Nürnberg

Timothy Chandler heads to Borussia Park with Nürnberg to take on surprise contenders Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

Chandler and the Nürnberg defense have been solid so far this season, providing cover for their rotating group of goalkeepers. The backline has shown grit going into challenges and enough speed to move up the flanks.

'Gladbach has also been tough to beat, showing how much difference a coach can make. While Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tüchel have received accolades for their attacking style and new formations, Lucien Favre has shown how much emphasis should be put on good old-fashioned organization.

'Gladbach has only given up three goals this season and is still the only team to have beaten or scored against Bayern Munich in any of the Bavarians' ten matches this year.

This will provide another tough test for Nürnberg - a team that hasn't necessarily been on a scoring streak. Dieter Hecking's team has only found the back of the net six times.

In addition to the two injured goalkeepers Raphael Schäfer and Patrick Rakovsky, Nürnberg will also be without defender Per Nilsson, who is recovering from an Achilles operation, and midfielders Daniel Didavi and Mike Frantz are still working their way back to game fitness after injuries.

Favre will have a full squad, excepting only defensive all-rounder Roel Brouwers.

SC Paderborn 07 - FC Ingolstadt 04

Edson Buddle will be in the starting lineup for Ingolstadt on Friday when they travel to take on Matt Taylor and Paderborn.

With his two goals last weekend against Dresden, Buddle moved straight to the top of the team's scoring list. The American forward will be looking to keep that momentum going, as Ingolstadt is in danger of losing sight of the top of the standings.

The team was able to move past their slow start by doubling up Dresden 4-2. Hopefully, it will provide the team with the confidence they need to string a couple of wins together.

Matt Taylor has been used sparingly by head coach Roger Schmidt, having scored just once in five appearances. He will most likely be used as a sub once again as he tries to work his way into the starting line-up.

Ingolstadt will be without Andreas Görlitz, who is still suspended, as well as midfielders Kristoffer Andersen, Leonhard Haas and Malte Metzelder, and forward Ahmed Akiachi.

Paderborn will be without backup goalkeeper Jens Grahl, defender Jens Wissing and forward Sven Krause.

Notes

Daniel Williams has getting minutes as a substitute and will most likely take the field in the second half on Sunday when Hoffenheim faces off against FC Cologne. Fabian Johnson is still out with a slipped disc and will not make the trip.

Steve Cherundolo was a surprise exclusion from the starting 11 last week for Hannover and will most likely once again start on the bench on Saturday when 96 tries to cement its place in the top three against Augsburg - a team still looking for its first win of the season.

David Yelldell will be on the bench for Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday when the team travels to Munich to take on the league-leaders. Coach Robin Dutt will be looking for answers after last-week's disaster at home against Cologne.

Alfredo Morales will likely not be in the Hertha squad that travels to take on Werder Bremen on Sunday.

A new coach, another chance? That must be what was going through Jermaine Jones's head when Schalke head coach Ralf Rangnick stepped down this week due to "exhaustion". However, the American midfielder will most likely not be included in the squad that hosts Freiburg on Saturday.

Ricardo Clark has just seen 90 minutes of action this season for Eintracht Frankfurt and probably won't be in the starting 11 against Dynamo Dresden on Monday.

Bobby Wood will be looking to return to 1860's bench on Sunday when they travel to take on Greuther Fürth.

Luis Robles will be on the bench for Karlsruhe on Sunday when the team travels to take on Hansa Rostock.

Both Preston Zimmermann of SV Darmstadt 98 and Amaechi Igwe of SV Babelsberg 03 have the weekend off in the 3.Bundesliga.
