In the opening weekend of the Scottish Premier League, Maurice Edu and defending champions Rangers played to a disappointing home draw with Hearts.
Edu, as usual, started the game and played the full 90 minutes.
The game started off poorly for Rangers as Hearts controlled play early in the game. In the 16th minute Hearts pulled ahead when their Ugandan defender David Obua headed home a corner from Daniel Grainger.
Later in the first half Hearts almost doubled their lead when David Templeton broke free hand had a point blank shot from 10 yards but Rangers keeper Allan McGregor made the nice save. A few minutes after that, Obua almost had his second goal of the game but his open shot from 8 yards missed the net completely.
In the second half, Rangers would begin to show more life and create a number of chances.
In the 58th minute, Steven Naismith would equalize when he headed home a cross from Sasa Papac from the left side. For Naismith, the goal a bit of redemption has he had previously missed a number of good opportunities earlier in the game.
Rangers will not have much time to recover from the draw as they head to Sweden for an important UEFA Champions League qualifier with Malmo.
Their next Premier League game will be on June 8 when they host Kilmarnock.
