PREVIEW: ST. ETIENNE - LILLE
CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON - Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Carlos Bocanegra and the Greens of St. Etienne return home just days after a narrow victory over the weakest team in Ligue 1, to face the leaders from Lille.
Bocanegra can expect to see a start in the toughest game of the remaining season, one which could determine the eventual champion of Ligue 1.
Lille are looking for their first Ligue 1 championship in 67 years, and hold a four-point edge on Marseille. With Paris St. Germain, Rennes and Sochaux still to face, occupants of thefourth through sixth spots in the standings, the Northerners want to be sure to get as many points away on Tuesday evening.
Lille coach Rudi Garcia has a few absentees in his squad with Gervinho and Ludovic Obraniak suspended. Eden Hazard is still recovering from a twisted ankle and Pierre-Alain Frau is still nursing a calf injury. On the bright side midfielder Yohan Cabaye and defender Franck Béria will return from suspension.
St. Etienne skipper Christophe Galtier has few major worries in his lineup and can expect his men to be as tenacious as the last time the two foes met, a 1-1 final in which a Bakary Sako penalty offset a Moussa Sow strike for Lille.
