CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON - Friday, May 6, 2011
Carlos Bocanegra and St. Etienne will try to make one final push for Europe while Quentin Westberg will likely be a spectator when Evian hit the road.
AC Arles Avignon - St. Etienne
St. Etienne make a trip down south on Saturday to the league's cellar squad with a mission to claim no less than three points.
Defender Carlos Bocanegra can expect to start in the backline and see a full 90 minutes of action.
The Green and Whites have five games to make a miraculous push for a Europa League qualification spot. With an eleven-point spread between them and fourth-place Paris St. Germain, the chances are slim.
Nonetheless coach Christoph Galter will have a full strength squad with all of his regular starters at his disposition. Only reserve Yoric Ravet will remain benched after picking up a leg injury last Saturday.
It has been a memorable but dismal run for Arles in the Ligue 1 this season. In their first season in the top flight, the Lions have managed only one win and a total of 14 points. Last weekend, they suffered a slaughterhouse defeat at the hands of LOSC Lille in a 5-0 rout in which Emmanuel Correze saw two yellows, rendering him ineligible for Saturday afternoon.
In their previous meeting in December, St. Etienne cruised to a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Laurent Batlles and Emmanuel Riviere.
Quentin Westberg will mind the backup keeper position for Evian TG FC when then head to neighboring Grenoble Friday night to face GF 38.
