DAVID SMITH - Wednesday, April 6, 2011
Matt Taylor and Ahlen will look to turn around their recent poor run of games on Wednesday night when they visit fellow relegation strugglers SV Sandhausen.
Rot Weiss suffered a second straight subpar outing over the weekend as they were handily beaten by Saarbrücken by a 2-0 scoreline to run their losing streak to two games. The result left them back in the thick of the relegation battle, with just a one-point cushion keeping them out of the bottom three.
Wednesday's game against fellow drop candidates Sandhausen - who are sandwiched directly between Ahlen and the bottom three - could go a long way to decide their final fate at the end of the season.
With just seven games left on the schedule following the game, whoever comes out ahead would have slight upper hand in keeping the pressure of a possible drop down into the fourth-tier Regionalliga off their backs.
The task could be a tough one for Taylor and his teammates, as Sandhausen have been on a good run as of late, not tasting defeat over their last five games, earning three wins in the process.
They have let down somewhat on their last two, laying down goose eggs against Regensburg over the weekend and Wiesbaden one week before.
Ahlen will be without the suspended Kevin Wölk while Sandhausen are reporting no injuries or suspensions.
