It was a very long day at the office for Maurice Edu and Rangers who suffered a dismal defeat on Sunday afternoon versus Celtic in Scottish Premier League action.
Edu started for the Light Blues at midfielder and went the distance in the loss at Celtic Park.
Two first half goals from Gary Hooper never allowed Walter Smith's men to work their way into the game as Celtic now own a commanding eight point lead in the SPL standings.
Hooper scored his first in the 17th minute when he easily beat Rangers defender Dave Weir on a ball and had plenty of time and space to slip a shot past Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
Just 11 minutes later, Hooper found the back of the net again after receiving a cross in from Emilio Izaquirre who did well to beat Rangers' offside trap.
Edu and fellow midfielder Kyle Bartley struggled for the better part of the match and an Edu giveaway ultimately led to the third and final Celtic goal in the 70th minute.
The hosts stripped the US international of possession and a build-up to goal resulted in Kris Commons' right-footed curler past McGregor.
Edu and Rangers will have to regroup quickly as another stern test awaits on Thursday when they travel to Portugal to face Sportling Lisbon in the return leg of their Round of 32 Europa League match-up.
The two played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg on Thursday night at Ibrox.
