Swiss second division club FC Lugano has signed young American Alex Cannas to a short term deal that will keep the striker at the club until the end of May.

Lugano currently plays in Switzerland's Challenge Division and is located in the Italian-speaking region of the country.

Cannas was born in Italy but then moved to California with his family when he was four years old.

The 19 year old forward trialed at the club for three weeks in November where he impressed club officials by scoring four goals in a training match.

Cannas finally received an offer from the club in December and will be there for the next five months.

"I can confirm that Alex Cannas will be with us till the end of this season," Lugano media spokesman Marco Rigoni told YA.

The young Californian had spent previous summers training with clubs in Italy including two weeks last year with Serie B club AS Cittadella.

Lugano return to Challenge Division action on February 21st against Vaduz.
