Brad Guzan earned his first win for Hull who downed Portsmouth in the Championship while Carlisle's American duo of Mike Grella and Frank Simek fell to Tranmere Rovers in League One.

Hull City 3-2 Portsmouth

Brad Guzan grabbed his first win as a starting goalie for Hull City against Portsmouth.

Guzan started his second game for the Championship club, helping Hull keep sight of a promotion playoff spot.

Jimmy Bullard opened the scoring for Hull City when he blasted home a 21st minute penalty after a foul was committed to Cameron Stewart in the box.

It was early in the second half though when Pompey struck back. Liam Lawrence was taken down in the box by Anthony Gerrard and barried home the penalty kick himself.

Hull's Matty Fryatt gave the Tigers a lead again though after a clinical 12 yard finish in the 69th minute.

Nick Barmby extended Hull's lead when he received a Bullard pass and fired home in the 72nd minute.

A Lawrence cross found Greg Halford in the 76th minute, giving Pompey a fighting chance, though the Tigers lead turned out to be insurmountable.

Nolberto Solano and Anthony Gerrard were booked for Hull City, while no players received any cards for Pompey.

Hull City next plays Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup this weekend. Portsmouth will play Brighton as well in the FA Cup.

Derby County 0-0 Millwall

Conor Doyle and Derby County played to a scoreless tie against Millwall in a weekday Championship clash.

Doyle started again for the Rams and was subbed out in half time for Tomasz Cywka.

Though a win for Millwall would have been preferred, the tie does stretch their unbeaten streak to eight games in league play.

Derby now falls into the bottom half of the standings and has now failed to win in their last three home games.

With many wasted chances in the first half by both teams, Derby's Kris Commons created the first clear cut scoring chance after he went one on one with Millwall's goalie David Forde, only to be denied.

With only 18 minutes remaining in the game, Millwall defender Jack Smith took a dangerous shot that barely went wide.

Millwall's Jack Smith and Tamika Mkandawire were the only bookings in the game.

Derby next plays Crawley Town in FA Cup play this weekend while Millwall takes on Birmingham also in Cup action.

Carlisle United 1-2 Tranmere Rovers

The American duo of Frank Simek and Mie Grella featured in Carlisle United's loss to the Tranmere Rovers.

Simek started the game and went the full ninety minutes while Grella came on in the 68th minute for the Cumbrians.

Rovers took the lead in the 39th minute after Ian Goodison finished a 20 yard shot off the post.

James Berrett leveled the score for Carlisle in the 78th minute after he slotted home a 12-yard shot.

Ian Moore though scored the game-winning goal for the Rovers after he finished an Enoch Showunmi cross in the 80th minute of the game.

Lubomir Michalik, Ben Marshall Paul Thirlwell and Tom Taiwo all received yellow cards for the Cumbrians, while Timothy Cathalina was the lone played booked for Tranmere.

Carlisle next plays Torquay in the FA Cup this weekend while takes on Walsall in league action on Saturday.
