Carlos Bocanegra was a 90 minute man in defense for Saint Etienne who split the points with visiting Auxerre on Saturday afternoon at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint Etienne.
Loic Perrin was the hero for the home teams scoring a second half goal that keeps Bocanegra and company in the top half of the Ligue 1 standings.
Auxerre's Jean-Pascal Mignot opened the scoring in the 27th minute when he bounced in a header off a Benoit Pedretti free kick.
The ball floated over the head of Saint Etienne goalkeeper Jeremie Janot who could only watch helplessly.
Otherwise, Janot was superb on the afternoon denying Auxerre many times from scoring.
Nine minutes after the halftime break, the hosts equalized via a Blaise Matuidi cross that reached a wide open Perrin who nodded it home.
Bocanegra and the Saint Etienne held firm the rest of the way to earn the draw.
Next up for the US national team captain is a road date at Nancy.
