MICHAEL ADUBATO - Monday, November 22, 2010
Anderlecht continued their climb back to first place as they squeaked by Germinal Beerschot Antwerp on the road by a solitary goal in Flanders, supplied by Kanu.

Starting on the bench, American midfielder Sacha Kljestan took to the field in place of Argentinian midfielder Lucas Biglia who came off due to injury halfway through the first half.

The Belgian champions dominated possession in the first half but were unable to make it count as efforts by Kanu, Jonathan Legear and Guilluame Gillet came to nothing in the end. Teen striker Romelu Lukaku had the best chance in the first half but the Beerschot keeper, Thomas Kaminski was assisted by the post to deny last year's Golden Boot winner.

Things continued in the second half with Gillet also being denied by the post soon after the re-start. The traveling fans however knew that a goal was imminent and they only had to wait until the clock struck the hour mark to see Lukaku feed the ball to Kanu who struck it past Kaminski into the bck of the net. Although there were a few more half chances for both sides, the score ended with the 1-0 victory for the reigning champions.

The victory came at a cost for Anderlecht however when Lukaku was handed a second yellow card in injury time. The youngster will now miss this Saturday's visit of Sporting Charleroi.
