Alejandro Bedoya and Orebro are one step closer to European competition next year after downing GAIS at Gamla Ullevi Stadion on Wednesday evening in Goteburg.

Bedoya started at his customary midfielding position and went the distance for head coach Sixten Bostrom.

The victory lifts Orebro's advantage over fourth place Elfsborg to five points with just three matches remaining in the Allsvenskan season.

The third place team in Sweden's premier level receives a berth to next year's Europa League.

There would be just one goal on the night and it came off a GAIS player.

Tommy Lycen had the dubious distinction of being charged with an own goal in the 13th minute.

Orebro's Nordin Gerzic sent in a corner kick that split the GAIS defense before ricocheting off of Lycen's side and into the net.

Widely beleaguered in the Swedish media for their poor road record, Bedoya and company were able to batten down the hatches the rest of the way and keep GAIS from scoring an equalizer.

The visitors nearly doubled the margin in the 90th minute but Marcus Astvald's sizzler stung the post and bounced out of play.

Next up for Orebro is home date on Monday with Brommapojkarna.
