EXTRA TIME
BRI-MATHIAS HODGE - Tuesday, October 19, 2010
It was a busy weekend in Finland for the Veikkausliiga yanks aiming to avoid the drop with only two games remaining in the season.

VPS 3 - 1 Tampere United
Greg Eckhardt went the distance in defense and picked up a 44th minute yellow card as VPS came from behind to beat TamU at Hietalahti on Sunday night.

Jonne Hjelm put the guests in front after 21 minutes with Juha Pirinen providing the assist.

From there on out it was all Vaasa as Valtter Laaksonen levelized seven minutes later and Bernhardt Edgar helped VPS take the lead seven minutes before the break.

Edgar turned provider to seal the deal in the 70th minute laying off for Pekka Kainu to tally.

Yank keeper Brian Pope remains out long-term for VPS with a shoulder injury.

VPS are now in 10th place tied on points with Haka and three points ahead of 13th place Oulu. TamU are just a single point ahead in 8th place.

FC Lahti 1 - 1 IFK Mariehamn
The Åland yanks all participated as the islanders took a point from Lahti and Jari Litmanen on Sunday night after leading at the half.

Lamar Neagle got the start up top for the guests and did not disappoint, connecting with Sebastian Strandvall for a goal just two minutes before the half.

Lahti brought on Litmanen at the half, and the former Ajax man showed his skill, turning the tide toward the hosts.

The beneficiary was Riku Heini who was sent in alone in the box and notched his first career Veikkausliiga goal to level the terms.

Mason Trafford and Giuseppe Funicello both started and went the full 90 in the Mariehamn defense while the goal scorer Neagle was substituted out after 81 minutes, after picking up a caution in the 73rd minute.

The tie leaves in Mariehamn in 11th place, two points ahead of last placed Lahti and one point ahead of both Oulu and JJK in a battle to stay out of the relegation playoff slot.

FC Inter 1 - 1 MyPa
Daniel Antunez went the distance and picked up a yellow card in the process as Inter tied MyPa at Veritas Stadium on Monday night.

The guests were the first to get on the scoreboard 34 minutes in with a finish by Pele Koljonen, his fifth of the season.

Inter struck back after the half as the Dutchman Guilano Grot put an Antunez cross into the box into the lower corner from 11 yards out in the 59th minute.

Antunez received a caution in the 78th minute.

Inter remain 6th place in the Veikkausliiga standings, two points back of Jaro. MyPa are in 7th place, five points back of Inter going into the final weekend.
