Sammy Ochoa notches one to give Estudiantes the victory while the Americans at Pachuca help preserve the tie at home.

Estudiantes 2 1 Atlas

Sammy Ochoa was the hero for Estudiantes on Friday, scoring the winning goal as Estudiantes defeated Atlas at home.

The win gives Estudiantes a little breathing room as they distance themselves from the relegation zone.
Rafael Medina gave Estudiantes the lead in the 18th minute when he received the ball in the area off a poor clearance and shot on the first touch past goalkeeper Pedro Hernandez.

However six minutes later, Flazio Santos evened the game for Atlas, heading the ball in off a free kick taken from the midfield.

Ochoa entered the game in the 77th minute for Eduardo Guarch and quickly made his presence known.

In the 80th minute Mauro Cejas delivered a center and Ochoa made an acrobatic leap to get his head on it, heading the ball down into the ground and towards the right giving Hernandez no chance.

The goal secured the victory as Atlas was unable to equalize.

Estudiantes will visit Queretaro next week.

Pachuca 1 1 Morelia

Pachuca earned a dramatic draw on Saturday against Morelia in a game that saw three Americans on the field at the same time.

Marco Vidal earned the start again while Herculez Gomez and Jose Francisco Torres came off the bench.

Pachuca took the lead in the 11th minute when Dario Cvitanich managed to penetrate the defense and found Carlos Pena open in the area whose shot off the first touch bounced off the post and into the goal.

With the lead, Pachuca began to dominate the game controlling possession and creating multiple chances.

Torres entered the game in the 50th minute, but almost immediately after entering, in the 59th minute, Miguel Sabah tied the game with an excellent finish from a header.

With the game tied, both teams created chances and neither team was able to dominate.

Herculez Gomez entered in the 64th and was able to create several chances but was unable to finish.

In the 89th minute, Pachuca keeper Miguel Calero was sent off after tripping Luis Gabriel in the area to prevent what would have surely been a goal.

With Pachuca out of substitutes, defender Juan Carlos Rojas would finish the game as keeper.

Sabah lined up to take the penalty kick that Rojas miraculously stopped, saving the tie for the home team.

The tie would feel like a win for a Pachuca who celebrated as if they had won the championship.

Pachuca will visit Jaguares next week.

Notes

Edgar Castillo entered in the 75th minute of San Luis' victory over Queretaro on Saturday.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
