Ryan Guy provided two assists as St. Patrick's Athletic earned a valuable point away to Sporting Fingal on Saturday to boost their chances of finishing third in the Airtricity League Premier Division.
Sporting Fingal 2-2 St. Patrick's Athletic
Guy's influence on St. Pat's this season has been clear to see and he played a central role in this game as he set up both of his team's goals as they escaped from Morton Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a point.
The Saints dropped down to fourth spot due to Sligo Rovers beating Drogheda United on the same day and holding a better goal difference, although Pete Mahon's team will keep fighting to finish in the top three.
Dave Mulcahy opened the scoring on eight minutes when Guy twisted and turned defender Colin Hawkins before supplying the perfect cross for his teammate to hook in.
Sporting had several chances to get back on level terms, but it was the Saints that struck again when Guy stole the ball off Shaun Williams and played it through for Danny North to blast in from close range.
However, that just stirred the home team into mounting a fightback with Glen Crowe pulling one back on 77 minutes when Gary O'Neill slid a pass into him and he made no mistake with a lethal strike.
The visitors were hanging on in the closing stages when Sporting scored again when Ronan Finn's shot took a big deflection off Damian Lynch.
Guy was replaced on 82 minutes by Brian Cash, but he had done enough to help his team move onto 51 points and stay in the hunt for a Europa League qualifying place.
Chris Konopka was an unused substitute for Waterford United in their 4-2 defeat to Monaghan United.
