Carlos Bocanegra and Saint Etienne consolidated their lead at the top of the table with a close win over Lyon on Saturday.

The American defender started and played the full 90 minutes at left back, helping the back line post their third consecutive shutout.

Dimitri Payet was a last minute addition to the squad after recovering from an injury earlier in the week, providing a huge boost to Saint Etienne coach Christophe Galtier in time for the derby.

After weathering some early pressure from Lyon, Saint Etienne struck late on against the run of play.

Payet's free kick from well outside the box beat Hugo Lloris to give Saint Etienne the lead in the 74th minute.

Saint Etienne remain in first place with 16 points.

They face Marseille at home next Saturday.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, ladies and gentlemen, but Michael Orozco will start for the US men's national team in Jacksonville.
